Hi bought a now 7 year old car 2 years ago, long story short I hadn't much luck with and spent good few pound fixing, most recent turbo went , cost me €1,350 to repair, iv now been told engine is damaged from when the turbo went,so needs new or be reconditioned,I honestly in no mood to spend any more money on this car it has my heart broke, I just want to move it on and go again with another, my question is what you get for car with dodgy engine, I paid 11,000(overpaid was prob more worth 9-10k) its not spotless few bumps n scratches and needs new rear bumper, most from previous, bumper from handbrake fail(story for another day) I know I going lose lot on it, I just don't know where start on how much, I rather be honest what needs repairing then say cars fine and land someone else in dumps with it, cash for cars offering 1600 online, that's some drop to take, just don't know if it's as good as it gets

Put an engine in it. The hit will be less.

A car with a damaged or unrepairable engine is worth very little. While I understand you don't want to spend any more money on it, in order to recoup as much as possible you might have to spend money on having a second hand engine fitted to achieve that. Replacing the engine with a second hand one will end up being cheaper than taking the hit on selling it as is.

I’d say it could be worth around €4,000 to the right person. Finding the right person is the issue.

Financially it would be better to replace the engine. Your probably looking at €1,500 or so to replace the engine, and you’d probably sell it for €9,000 or so

Prices of cars have gone up substantially over the past two years, second hand engines and other parts haven't much. Therefore as others have said, get the engine sorted and fix up the bumpers etc. and you will probably loose very little on it.

Another option is to fix it and keep it if it otherwise suits your needs. Buying another might land you in the same spot all over again.

Thanks for your advice, do ye know if its less to have engine reconditioned then to replace, it's running just let's out lot smoke when cold then clears when warm, need keep eye on oil level, just be afraid worst case scenario I replace it with another dodgy engine, never know what your getting

Send it to the auction if its running good when hot.

They are all big boys there!
