How Picky is the Register of Foreign Births?

    Hello all!

Applying for Irish citizenship through my Leitrim-born grandfather, but I wonder if I will have an issue. The birthdate on his Irish birth certificate does not match the birth date listed on his City of New York death certificate. Before I drop 280 euros and wait two years, I was hoping someone could tell me how fastidious the good people of the Register are about such things, or if it actually matters at all. I am 99% certain I've got the correct James Dolan from 1904 in Leitrim, as the birth records cross-references with the 1911 census info. I have reached out to the various government info providers and they all direct me to a phone number for the Foreign Birth Register. I would really rather not run up an international cell-phone charge waiting for someone to answer the phone.

If anyone can help I would be most appreciative.

    Thanks!
