I'm heading to the states next month.

I will be driving in 3 states arizona, utah and nevada.

Do you need an international driving permit for driving in these states or will your irish one do?

Do they ask for this when they hire out a car to you?

No, if you have an Irish licence then you don't need any additional permits.

The international drivers licence is just a document that translates your details into the local language.

It's not needed for north America.

    Yes not needed.

Another thing to note is that when hiring a car in US they generally will only hire to someone 21 or above and if you are between 21-24 they will add loading on the insurance.

Also beware your phone may or may not work and international roaming may apply . So for sat nav you may need to hire or buy one, as using Google maps etc. can work out crazy expensive on roaming data. It might be cheaper to buy one in Ireland with USA maps.

You can download offline maps to your phone if you have a good phone and understand what to do. Then you need a holder and a cigarette lighter adapter.
