Insurance Excess Refund

    Three months ago, too the date the girlfriend’s car was parked on the road and was hit by a Fingal grass cutting tractor (well more the attachment) 

    Long story short she was told she had to pay the excess (E300) and would get it back as they admitted liability etc

    She has the car long back and fixed (E1.5K or so of damage) and is getting the run around form 123/RSA about getting her E300 back (its with recovery, 3Rd party, don’t have direct line, being investigated etc)

    Are they taking the piss or is this a normal timeframe to expect people to jump through hoops to get E300 back?

    The Ombudsman has no involvement here. Your insurer has compensated you for your damage as per the contract. In other words, they have honoured the agreement. Their efforts are now directed at seeking recovery from the wrongdoer, and this can take time. The collection of the excess you paid is a courtesy service your insurer is undertaking on your behalf (something they are not obliged to do). Until such time as the 3rd party's insurer has reimbursed your insurer, including the excess amount, you can't receive payment

    As said above the excess issue is between the car owner and council. You might get sorted quicker by cutting out the middle man and getting onto the council/local councilor directly.

    I hope she didn't loose her no-claims bonus over this? If so make sure she asks to get it restored when the council eventually pay your insurer back.

    FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

    You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

    Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

    Thanks for the information and replies, I'll see if she kept the number for the foreman in the gardening section

    I'm guessing she won't lose no claims as they accepted responsibility and sure wasn't even in the car when it happened

    Her bonus, unless protected, is affected until such time as insurers are fully reimbursed for their outlay. The other party accepting liability is only the first part of the process
