Travelling to USA in Feb - Passport expires in July

As the title says I am travelling to New York in February 2023 and my passport expires in July 2023. Do I need to renew my passport before travelling and will the passport office allow me to do it now. I will be applying for the ESTA Visa Waiver in early 2023 as that doesn't take long to get but going by the delays in the passport office early this year I am afraid the passport might take 10 weeks to get.

You don’t need 6 months on the passport. It just needs to not expire when you are there. It does need to be biometric though, so if it’s not then you need to get a new one asap. That’s a mandatory requirement

If all docs are in order and you have the existing passport, online service seems to be very quick (less than 1 week recently).

Online renewals are quick & easy but only required in this instance if you need a biometric passport. If you already have a biometric one then there's nothing to worry about
