Matching stain on a handrail

We got the attic converted and time to paint the new spindles and handrail to match the existing, which has white spindles and a stained handrail.

Is it possible to match the stain or will that just break my heart/cost a lot in trialling stains on test pieces? If not possible to match, is it possible to strip back the original stain and do it all as one stain? I have my doubts on the second question tbh but might be easier!
