Been offered a job for extra 5 grand per year but its in Citywest and im based in finglas. Im not ust to m50 anyone know what sort of commute time I would be looking at ?

currently work 20 mins away so need to see if it’s worth it.

Depending where in Finglas you are coming from, could be 45mins to an hour most mornings..

The tolls alone would be about €840 a year if you joined at junction 2..

As someone with no patience for traffic, I would want more than €5k or flexible working hours to put up with the M50 every day.. Would you current employer match the new offer?

I wouldn't take that commute on for 5k at higher rate tax.

The figure of €5k extra is meaningless without knowing the current pay rate. It might be worth it if it's €5k on top of €25k but not for €5k on €100k.

I wouldn't take it for an extra €20k and company car with fuel card, it's hell and will harm your mental health.

I worked in City West for six months and found it very dreary. There is nothing to do there either. You cannot walk anywhere either, if you want to go to the shopping centre you drive, albeit a 15 minute walk at lunchtime will not kill you either.

From memory there was a hub area which encompassed a Spar/Centra, a coffee shop and some type of canteen buffet / restaurant. I also do remember there being a good staff canteen in one of the IT Software co's , I forget the name. Indian chef was class.

After tax you are looking at getting as little as € 55 a week extra, that will barely cover the toll.

I wouldn't bother if I was you, unless of course the money or surroundings are not a motivation for you.

It's either get stuck in M50 traffic, or take the backyard roads through Snugborough, Clonsilla and Lucan (follow the L52 ex 239 bus route through there), and either way you're going to be whacked by it.

Agree on citywest being a life sucker. You're in Dublin dude. Use the many many better options available
