You need to be a bit more specific in what you are looking for. Are you looking for another car similar to the Octavia or are you looking for a crossover given you mention a Tuscon? What Kia model were you looking at? Sportage? These crossovers are all the rage these days so second hand values are very strong.

Regarding the Corolla, Toyota stopped selling diesel cars in 2019 so all new Toyotas from then on are mainly petrol hybrid meaning there is a small battery powered electric motor that works in conjunction with the petrol engine for improved fuel efficency. All hybrids are usually automatic because that gearbox is more efficent than a manual.

And both brand new and used car prices have gone through the roof in the last few years due to part shortages as well as Brexit making importing less attractive. You will struggle to trade up 7 years for 20k these days. You might get more for your Octavia by selling it privately especially if it's diesel and in good shape.

If you want more space than your Octavia and clever seating you could get a Renault Grand Scenic or if you just want more space you could get a Skoda Superb.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

2020 octavia d. coming to about 26k so within my budget ,the 2020 hyundia tuscon d. are starting around 29k which is preety dear in my book .Sportage doent seem any cheaper .I am wondering are the tuscan such a top drawer vehicle to command such a big price ,they seem very popular .Does the octavia punch above its weight in that is it considered similar to a golf, astra, focus etc .To me it feels more like a passat, mondeo etc .ppp.I could get 2020 1.6 petrol corolla for 25k but how efficent on petrol would it be is my concern .I previous had a 1,4 focus and when I changed to diesel octavia ,my fuel bill every week was halved but only drive 20k/year

That model Tuscon isn't a top drawer but Hyundai sold alot of them back then to gain market share. Crossovers in general are very popluar these days meaning they retain strong resale values. You also have to compare like with like. A brand new Octavia in 2020 was cheaper to buy than a similar year Tuscon or Sportage. A similar year VW T-Roc or Ford Kuga are asking even more.

There are also 2020 Tuscons for sale asking under 29k:

What about staying with Skoda and the Karoq:

I can tell you though that none of these crossovers will offer the same room as the Octavia.
