Yearly sunshine comparison Dingle Vs Rosslare

I live on " Costa del Drizzle " ( love it ) but wondered how much difference we have with repudately sunnier locations. Have looked myself, but got lost in the units.

So 5 years or even 10 year averages would satisfy my humble request.

Interesting how that correlates with a Sat image I saved in the Summer of 2014 to highlight how the Summer of 2014 rivalled the epic Summer of 2013 for half the population but less than 10% of the countries landmass in a 20 mile wide coastal strip down the East and South Coast. Gin Blue skies all day most days that Summer in that Eastern/Southern Coastal Fringe whereas for the rest of the landmass, convective cloud would bubble up before noon day after day meaning a warm and muggy Summer but milky white to grey skies.

ie. Most don't remember the Summer of 2014 as anything special in this country yet if you lived somewhere within that Eastern and Southern Coastal Strip it rivalled some of the best Summers we've had historically.

Hopefully my calculations are correct here - considering there are 8760 hours in a year and half of those (4380) are spent in darkness - our sunniest regions along the southern and eastern coastal strip managing 1650 hours out of a potential 4380 gives a return rate of around 38%. Not a wonderful return, is it? Not to mention the lower amounts further west and north.

These are the potential maximum sunshine hours I refer to when I'm calculating the % of sunshine a month reached its potential. Even in exceptionally sunny months like August 1995, we still only reached like 50-60% of our maximum possible sunshine.

Of course some sunshine will also be lost due to obstruction surrounding the station when the sun is lower in the sky around sunrise and sunset.

I think thats about right via another method. Not quite as bad of a return as it might seem on the surface if most of those Sunny hours are April-September. ie. Grey skies October-March don't depress me as much as they would April to September.

Gives Daylight hours in 15 day increments for a range of latitudes. I selected 55ºN the closest to Dublins 53ºN. I added up the 15 day incremented hours of daylight and multiplied by 15 and got a figure of an annual 4317.6 hours of daylight at 55ºN.

A long winded way of realising that our latitudes large variance in day/night length across the Seasons does indeed average out to 12 hours apiece. LOL.

Sh!t, just realised this subject matter might trigger an Orion 442 stream of consciousness waffle. Thankfully I have him on ignore. LOL.
