Argentine vice president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was returning home from court today where she is facing corruption charges. As she got out of her car surrounded by her supporters a man pointed a gun at her face and pulled the trigger at point blank range but the gun jammed.

    Crazy footage

There are 2 videos, one from behind the car where it's hard to see what's happening and a second one where she is right in front of the camera when it happens. The below clip shows both angles, look at the 30 second mark in the vid to see how close it was.

She's lucky as fcuk if the gun jammed as suspected. Yer man couldn't have missed from that range.

She should do the lotto after that, and the person behind her.

The lad behind her, a policeman or security doesn’t even see the gun… it’s a busy area and he’s probably focused on a threat from behind her but fûck the gun could get that close so could a knife. He might be redoing his CV tonight.

shes beyond lucky, no way she’d survive if she’s hit from that range.

Very difficult to have 100% security around someone 100% of the time. It only takes a second to pull out a gun and pull the trigger.

Many Argentinians believe Cristina set this up to victimise herself, as she is possibly facing 12 years in prison for corruption charges. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

She’s an outrightly corrupt and dodgy fûcker but still.

odd it was a Brazilian attempting the murder, a hitman perhaps ? Hired gun ?

Brazilian born Argentinian citizen, living there 20 years. Guess we'll never know the story for sure.

Cristina does tend to be linked to some strange incidents. Like that time when the public prosecutor Alberto Nisman "shot himself" shortly before he was due to present evidence against her.

It's plausible a professional hitman's gun may jam... Not so much if your paid a few quid saying you will get away.

If it was a setup then it seems to have worked, she is certainly more popular now

That isn't her securities fault unless they sanctioned bringing into her home whilst fighting off a crowd.

Unless that is a thing in Argentina, it all seems a bit suss.

I doubt this will make her more popular in Argentina. It would have just mobilised existing supporters. Argentina is very firmly divided between pro- and anti-Kirchnerists and there wouldnt be much sway between the two.

International media do not seem to be questioning the incident though, so maybe more support outside of Argentina which is interesting.
