Have bought a house that has what seems like a very old alarm installed. We were given no info beyond the code, so assume it's not monitored or anything like that. There's cables stick bloody everywhere for it so want to rip it out and replace with a wireless one.

Do I need an electrician or some other sort of professional to do this, or could it be done DIY? Pics attached FWIW

Id be looking to see if some of the cables that are in trunken can be used.

Wire free are handy but remember they take batteries which will need to be changed.

Outside bell, keypad, they would be the main cables to see if you can reuse.

Thanks, will try to leave the bell and keypad ones. In general though the install is horrible. All of the sensor cables are surface routed. Conduit stuck to walls everywhere!

That must be from 1995 or there abouts!

Unfortunately before the days of wire free the only way to do it was using cables.

Good guess! I found this behind a skirting board, presumably from when the house was last refurbished and alarm fitted.

Btw I went ahead and disconnected the alarm. There was a tamper switch in the control box, which set off the alarm. I disconnected the battery, which silenced the internal siren, but I needed to wait another 20 min or so before the external siren gave up.
