Firebird boiler

I bought a firebird utility oil boiler back at the tail end of the winter. I have been really let down by a plumber who I have told he can call anytime to set it up correctly. Basically strung me along for 14 weeks and says now oh I forgot. I was told that these burners are plug and play but they just don’t seem to be set right at all. Does the nozzle get changed or something even though it’s brand new.I do realise I have to start the process of getting a heating engineer with the correct testing equipment to set it up but it is very strange that a brand new and quite expensive burner does not run right. It’s my second one of these and the air intake is set the same as the first one which runs perfectly

new boilers have to be commissioned and set up properly they dont and cant be preset from the manf

    on site conditions vary

your best bet is to get an experienced boiler tech who will have the proper test equipment to set it up properly

Thanks Jim. I realise it’s a specialist job. Badly let down by an asshole plumber and now I have to start the whole process of getting someone again. Just as everyone will be deciding to get there boiler serviced. I know of a grant outdoor module that was installed by a plumber which needed nothing adjusting. I am many years in the building trade myself. All the people in the plumber trade I know in Dublin are 99 percent rgi gas installers and have almost no experience with oil systems

"brand new and quite expensive burner does not run right. It’s my second one of these"

Why have you changed the burner on a new boiler?

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

The burner is not riello branded alright but most of the module is the same. Some idiot decided it was a good idea to make the pressure guage electronic for some reason

it will be an elco burner now that firebird are using

they switched from riello about 4 years ago

Hi Jim. Outside at the flue you can hear it stutter slightly. Excessive smoke and using too much kerosene. Tried endlessly adjusting the air but never could get it right

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,974 ✭✭✭jimf

you cant adjust anything without the proper equipment

an over aired boiler is 1 of the biggest causes of excessive high co readings

best advice stop now and dont use until its set up properly

That’s exactly what I have done Jim. Have not turned it on since may or sometime like that. That plumber has let me down since then. I made the mistake of telling him to call when it suits he could do it whenever. Absolute knob end of a man

Thanks for all your help guys. Got both boilers sorted by a very impressive heating engineer who lives not too far away. Both boilers are running like a dream. Had the manners to not watch him too closely but it is definitely a very specialist job
