2022 Replacing a kitchen (standard semi-detached house)

I was hoping I could get some input on pricing for budget purposes, as I think we'll probably have to borrow. We're in a standard 4-bed semi-detached house built in the 90's. The kitchen really needs replacing, I'm hoping to change the U-shape to an L-shape counter with an island. Will try to price the flooring separately.

I'd like to get an idea of cost for the units + fitting, something Ikea or B&Q standard (not high end), with a quarz worktop. The kitchen space is 4.3x3.2m (beside dining-room area) with 2 doors and a window on the other 3 sides (there's a side extension on the house, but we won't be touching that yet). It's an awkward shape, as we don't have a single continous wall. I think we'd have 3.8m of lower cabinets on one side and < 3.2m on the other (corners would meet). We'd have about 3.8m of upper cabinet space (including extractor) plus 0.8m beside the window. I'd like ceiling-high upper cabinets (small kitchen needs every bit of space we can use). I'll price a free-standing American style Fridge/Freezer separately to go on the opposite wall. I'm hoping to get one full-height cabinet for the ovens, pull-down shelves for the under-ceiling part, drawers for all bottom cabinets except the corner, where I'd like pull-out shelves. I know all these add to the cost, so mentioning that too. We'll price an oven, cooker and dishwasher separately. The floor is tiled and would probably need to be pulled up to fit an island. I'd like the old units taken down and disposed.

You can use the IKEA Kitchen planner to give you an idea of costs of doing your kitchen with their cabinetry and worktops and once you have a design it should be easy to get quotes for fitting (if you don't feel up to the task yourself).

Had a design appt with B&Q. It was fairly thorough. Counter-tops was probably the biggest impact to cost with them, as for natural stone surfaces it was around 7k, a lot less with laminate. However it came in around 7k for kitchen (except counter-tops) plus around 6k for labour (including laying the floors and painting, plus minor appliances - no fridge).

It's almost 6 years since we did our kitchen and I still remember being gobsmacked by the price I was quoted by B&Q for both the supply of the units (which are bog standard) and the fitting. I'd strongly recommend shopping around - if you found the IKEA tool difficult to use you can arrange an appointment with one of their staff. Always worth contacting smaller kitchen fitters too - most of them use the same units B&Q do and you wouldn't be paying a premium for the fitting either since B&Q wouldn't be acting as middleman
