Our father is soon to turn 70, next month and has a very sizeable lawn to mow and will wish to continue to mow. He's currently v able with his traditional push lawnmower.

My brother and I would like to purchase a ride on one for him but the price of a new one would be beyond both our limits at present.

Is there anywhere where we could buy a substantial voucher to contribute towards a lawnmower?

We would both be clueless regarding the ride on lawnmower scene so any advice/recommendations on what we could do would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    YB

Get an autonomous lawnmower. If it's small enough to cut with a push mower then a robot would be better than a ride-on.

Thanks for the suggestion. We had suggested this before but he has zero interest.

He would like some activity to do the lawns while he still can.

It's sizeable area, about 3/4 of an acre.

Came in here to say the same. Game changer. Having endured years of torture and service bills with a ride on, when it finally got beyond repair we replaced with an autonomous robot mower.

About 1/4 the cost, grass is always perfect. No clippings, no petrol, about once every 2-3 weeks you might need to cut edges but that's it.

How do these robot lawnmower's cope with very large lawns?

    You get a bigger robot.

Everyone needs to read the OP. His father want the exercise (limited with a ride on) and fresh air himself.

Do these robots work like the ones that vacuum your floors? That is, do they go in a straight line until they reach the edge, turn and go on a random straight line etc

Or do they do a line, turn and do another parallel line etc until the grass is cut?

The other part of the OP is the father is 70 and the garden is 3/4 acre. Even with a ride-on her will struggle to cut it himself in a few years. He can still go around the edges with the push mower but the robot will take care of the bulk of it.

Thanks for everyones input- He really does not want an autonomous lawnmower.

He would much prefer a ride on for ownership/self satisfaction etc and we would like to continue to affirm his independency while we still can

Will check out Galway Garden Machinery for further information also
