Identify an insect.

    No photo I am afraid just a description. Length 1 1/2 inchs. Colour yellow/Black mostly yellow like a wasp. Spike protruding from it's rear end about 10 mm long. Can't be too many insects with a description like that. Very wasp like appearance but definitely not a common wasp. Seen one before but never checked it out.

    Sounds like a sawfly or an ichenium wasp

    Yes. Maybe a saw fly. What length is a saw fly?


    Or a wood wasp.
