Myself and a friend are going to a premier league game. So any City, which one would you suggest?

Newcastle if clubs and not a lot of clothing are your things.

In fairness it's a great city.

    Newcastle or Liverpool.

Second that, followed by a spin out later that night to Whitley Bay.

Gotta second this. 2 great places for a night out. Lovely people.

But take this recommendation based on the fact that they are among the English cities I have visited. There might be belting places that I haven't been in. Like Bristol could be a great spot, but never in it.

On the other hand, I found London a terrible spot. Been there a few times over weekends and struggled to find late bars and atmosphere much less friendly.

I had thought that London would be dry enough full of posers but had feared that Newcastle would be full of rough sluts and rougher lads just obsessed with football, drinking and fighting. Need somewhere in the middle. I thought Liverpool might be good.

Just from TV shows I have seen, Newcastle looked rough, I don't want to be going home with an STD.

I dont think you'll have to worry about that somehow.

    Didnt like Liverpool at all.

Bristol and York are two great spots.

Brighton and Bournemouth are two good towns on the south coast.

Bristol fails on the Premiership Football though.

Newcastle was good fun, stadium in heart of City is a bonus. Also if you wanted to do a second match you might be able to catch Sunderland the next day depending on timings.

I've been to Nottingham a few times and enjoyed it, compact, decent pubs and a walk to Stadium. Haven't really been to Liverpool which I must rectify at some stage.

Newcastle is great for a night out and not rough at all. Birmingham isn't bad either tbh. Not mad about Liverpool or Manchester personally and wouldn't even consider London.

I know Liverpool very well as I have been going there for nearly 30 years (for football).

It has gone quite rough and you'll see it in the news a lot recently. The area around Concert Square is dog rough at weekends.

I was there last week for the Palace game and it's not unusual to see pubs busy around Ranelagh Street at 10am.

If you do go to Liverpool, the Premier Inns are good places to stay.

OP, I don't know what age you are so that will be a consideration. As will be the ability to get a ticket - no chance for Liverpool unless you are a member or know one. You may get tickets for City, don't know about United. I like Manchester as a city and you have The Lowry Museum, Science Museum, Media City and the War Museum. A good visit is the FA museum.

Leeds is a lovely city but I'd say tickets might be scarce. I've been to Nottingham and it's ok but, again, tickets may be hard to get.

You'll have a much better chance of getting a ticket for a EFL game so Bristol would be an option.

But whatever you do, don't go to Hull. I'd rather go to Aleppo than Hull. It is, by a distance, the biggest dump that I have ever been in (but it was 20 years ago).

go to a Bristol City game.

much cheaper ticket, cheap flights and hotels

    Great ale and cider

    PL games are over rated

I’d remember being in Newcastle for a weekend. Went home with nurses one night. The following day we saw a flow of condoms in the river down stream of where they where. Honestly there was a condom flowing down the river every 12 seconds , non stop.

    mad place

    Sound lovely.

Op,if your destination is influenced by British soccer franchises then you are unnecessary limiting your options.

Bristol is a great shout, great night life, history, boat trip,a nice park run, small handy airport.

I have never been to a premier league game so want to go. obviously the premier league is a better quality than championship so it will only be somewhere that has a premier league team.

Op, start by finding a ticket so.

Unless you are prepared to pay hospitality prices, it may be harder than you think.

Very few go on general sale.
