Thanks for the reply yes I do well I have a crank extractor but apparently not required for this crank.

The chainset right side came off no issue when I loosen with the Allen key.

Looks like it's seized and I will have to tap off

I think what 07Lapierre means is that you can use the crank extractor to take off the crank, even though it originally didn't need one.

if the extractor doesn’t work, you could try pulling it off with a pullers? Something like this might do it…

I asked this on the other thread, but it might be better here. When you say it didn't work, did the crank puller not fit, or is the crank seized on?

Left crank seized there is a tiny bit of play so going to work on it today and see if I can get a pulley

    Thanks

Hacksaw between left side crankarm and BB should do the job (if entire crank is already finished).

Had to resort to this tactic once ever when stripping a bike that was left exposed to the elements for months

    Thanks nIicknikita

Unfortunately i dont have a hacksaw OR heat gone as also suggested ,Im on to the Park tools site now to to see what else i can do ,looks like its going to be brute force :)

Well you don't need to worry about protecting the crank so just be careful you don't contact the frame with the sledge hammer :-)

If you're near a half decent motor factors you can try something like Hayes crack it freeze spray. There's a few different versions. Its both an excellent penetrant oil and it forces the metal to rapidly contract and expand back.

Otherwise a cheap hacksaw from screwfix will do it.

    Thank Weepsie ,

I sent it to my neighbour who's a motor mechanic and he has better tools to try and sort it ,fingers crossed

Cheers for all the tips and advise guys

Don't keep us in suspense, did you have to use the nuclear option?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 802 ✭✭✭ciarano

The neighbour a motor mechanic had a pulley and off it came crank intact but aesthetically beyond use ,

Will try saddle technique to twist out seat post and as for the BB that's another adventure ,if i can get all removed it would make a lovely build

    Thanks again

Bench vice is your friend for the seat post. Clamp the post, and rotate the frame. You'll have much more leverage

'aesthetically beyond use' - how bad is it?

You need to embrace your inner rough fucker; an essential quality for some bike jobs
