Have a 2020 fiesta st line and getting bored of it and looking to change car. It’s a 1 litre so want something with a bit more power, I only do enough miles for petrol cars rather than diesel. While browsing this one caught my eye.

Any Passat owners have one of these and share there experiences? Any known problems and what are they like to drive. Seriously considering trading in my fiesta st line for this!

Assuming it is the 150bhp engine with cylinder deactivation it is a great unit. We have 2 150bhp versions with 200k between them and no engine issues at all. It's also belt, so no timing chain stretch to worry about from the earlier 1.4tsi's.

It's perky enough, very smooth and economical and I'd take one over a day all day long.

Got a call back from the dealer. They give me a trade in price of my fiesta for €17000 and the passat is €21,950 so I’d be paying €5k to change.

anyone have any idea if this is a good deal? By paying €400 + a month it would be cleared off within a year.

No way - I would not be paying 22k for a 7 year old passat you could be looking at a 16/17 BMW 3 Series.

In my opinion the most value you will get for your car is going for something newer and using yours to trade off it. What are your requirements? Could you look at moving to a Focus/Megane/Leon?

Depending on your budget you could stay the same year and look at 5-6k cost to change which will give you better value for money.

You were never going to fair well from a dealer trading a 2020 car in for a 2015 car. 22k is silly money for a 7 year petrol Passat and the cheapest 2 year old Fiesta ST Line is asking 20k from a dealer. So the dealer wants top dollar for his Passat but offering bottom trade-in value for your Fiesta. Also remember in a year's time when you have the loan paid off, the Passat will be 8 years old.

If your determined to move from the Fiesta to the Passat then your better off seeing what another dealer will offer you to buy the Fiesta off you for cash. Try ZuCar.ie, BetterDeal.ie, etc should be interested in buying your car. Get more than 17k from them and/or negotiate a no trade-in discount off the Passat so that it ends up costing you less than the 5k being asked to trade in.

OP, I was in a similar situation to you - I swapped a 2016 focus down to a 2014 A4 and I got a great price for it on a private sale.

It's still an 8 year old car though, and although it's in great condition at that age it requires a bit of maintenance particularly being a german car. If I could go back in time I would have traded it off something newer and just paid the difference as that's what I'll be doing anyways in a years time but having to shift on a 9 year old car isn't easy!

Why would selling a 9 year old car not be easy? Cars are easier to sell the older and cheaper they get.

That passat is A6/5 series/e class price for a 2015, although you won't get them in petrol in 2015 reg plate.

Just showing how it's overpriced, I'd guess they are valuing it high as a petrol which id also guess is pretty rare in a big saloon in 2015 but I wouldn't pay that.
