Mercedes W204 Rear subframe replacement

    Hey all,

I recently bought a 2008 C180K, it was all going great until tonight when i heard a clunky noise when breaking from the rear of the car.

I thought it was the brake shoes after coming away from the backing plate! i decided against my journey and i was lucky being very close to home. so i get back home and go for a closer look nothing was immediately sticking out so i shimmied my fat arse under the rear of the car and looked for play in the control arms on the side that was clunking.

well what i could see was the whole bracket moving on the subframe one side completely corroded its still half attached but is now very unsafe id imagine one hard stomp on the brake pedal would finish the job!

Has any one on here had one replaced recently? is worth replacing? price?

i see brand new subframes on donedeal for €450 inc bolts but i wouldn't undertake this job at home i don't have a lift so would have to bring it to a garage.

the car is standing me around €2500 as it sits what can i expect to get if i just list it on donedeal obviously i will have the fault in the add and that the car will likely need to be loaded onto trailer etc.

    Thanks

Just an update for anyone reading, i have got some good news and some bad news on the car. Rang Mercedes dealer they said they will repair the cars subframe and also fit new airbags it has an outstanding recall for them. cost possibly upto €300 for nuts and bolts but subframe and labour will be covered. bad news 15 cars ahead of me in que 🙈 booked airbags and for inspection of subframe for warranty claim 23rd september estimated repair time 2 months from inspection 🙃 better than scrapping the car but im without a car for approx 3 months :-(

So €300 and no car for 3 months. That's a pretty poor outcome for what is a Mercedes problem. Can you try another dealer?

yeah service manager said nuts and bolts aren't covered if they get damaged he said to budget €150-300 for them. the next nearest dealers are in wexford and cork which are a considerable distance to be fair. i am considering buying a run around but not ideal as i only bought this car a month ago it has nct and tax on it, subframe must have rotted from the inside out to have been missed at the test centre. just a nightmare now in general tbh
