Any know what rating the soaps get on rte, especially Home and away and Shortland Street.

I think you mean what audience are they suitable for. In general Soaps are meant for a General Audience within reason with the odd episode being Parental Guidance.

Supposedly around 300,000 to 500,000 watch Fair City, that would be 10% of people in Ireland are watching any given episode of Fair City. That would be something in the ballpark of what Hollyoaks gets in the entire of the UK and Ireland.

I somehow have my doubts about their methodology for those numbers. 🤣

Fair City has about 250,000 to 300,000 adult viewers (over 15s) on average every week, in 2023 its top show came in at 448k, while in 2024 it was 454k, it was the only soap to get into the top 50 for all audiences.

Coro St is next on VMTV getting between 190k and 200k, EastEnders and Emmerdale both get between 130K and 190K (over 15s)

Home and Away on RTÉ2 gets between 50K to 60K, though I have heard that the RTÉ1 showing gets around 100K.

Neighbours gets about 30K to 40K on RTÉ2, with similar viewers for Shortland Street when it aired at 5:30 and 6pm.

None of this includes repeats on TV or +1 channels (I think VMTV TWO gets between 20 to 30K for Coro and Emmerdale repeats), it also does not include Irish audiences watching on UTV/ITV1, BBC 1, Prime Video and Channel 5. I think Hollyoaks on C4 gets about 20k, but I think that only includes the Irish opt out ad channel and not C4 as a whole.

No. 11 Eastenders with 40k per ep

No. 12 Fair City with 30k per ep

No. 13 Home and Away with 30k per ep

No. 17 Neighbours with 8k per ep

No. 20 Shortland St with 6k per ep

(There was actually only one viewer for Shortland Street but they are big fans and watch 3hours of ads on repeat before actually getting to watch the episode, meaning 6k was record for that one viewer, dedication or what?)
