Myself and a mate are going to London for four days in September. We tend to drink a fair bit on hols and I'm worrying a bit about the daily cost when food and attractions are added in also.

The hotel and flights are paid for but I was just thinking earlier if the daily cost is potentially something like €250 per day I'll have to cancel b.c I have too many other expenses atm.

London has gotten very expensive for everything apparently but particularly for booze, you might be best keeping an eye out for wetherspoons pubs or (better in my view) Sam Smith pubs, good list of nice pubs here

London is expensive but 250 a day is a lot of drinking, haha Wetherspoons is good advice. You don't say where you are staying but if in the West End/Paddington/Earls Court/Kings cross you got problems with food and drink prices.Views might compensate though.A 30 minute trip in any direction on a bus or tube(buy an Oyster card for travelling) will take you out of the tourist areas for lower prices. Some pubs outside charge less earlier in the day and increasing after 6.00pm then 9.00pm or similar

There are very good chain restaurants in London where you can eat and drink quite reasonably. Strada, Zizzi, Cote, Pizza Express. Also some good chain pubs - All Bar one is reasonable and not a Wetherspoons. There are also Aussie/Kiwi/Saffar bars/clubs which are usually reasonable.

Lived there in 12/13. A great city for a tourist to visit. Plenty things happening around the likes of Brick Lane for street food which is East London when I was there. Even within the West End there was good value for food in China Town. North London, in and around Camden Street too. Although I rarely ate there I did drink a lot up that way.

You will spend what you have but would be mad not to go. Just get a 4-day Oyster card (If such thing, just ask the seller) which will cover travel around London. You can purchase them in the airport.

Would recommend a visit to the National History Muesum too. I think thats free in.

That old adage springs to mind; if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it! Maybe reduce the break to two days, if you're not prepared to reduce your alcohol intake?

The hotel and flights are already booked, I don't think my mate would be happy if I left after two days. I think we'll just have to avoid the more touristy or expensive pubs in general and stay away from clubs altogether.

    €250 per day? Per person?

That's €500 per day between the two of you. That's a shed load of eating and drinking.

Are you talking Michelin Star or something?

£100 per day should be enough.

Stick to spoons pubs and you'll be grand.

I know their booze is pretty cheap but I might try out the other chain mentioned. I don't like pubs without music, except for somewhere like the Gravediggers which makes up for it with character.

Well there's no music is Sam Smiths pubs either - and no mobiles/no cursing etc so perhaps not for you (bit of an odd pub chain but some of their beers are nice and as seen in the article some lovely old fashioned pubs with architectural merit).

You're joking me, no music in Sam Smith's either! We could get around the swearing part but some kind of music is essential.
