I thought this might be a good thread to start to get rid of the messers on donedeal save people traveling to look at a car if someone on here has looked @ it already & its a bunch of rubbish. I will start it off with this car :https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-avensis-2007/31667818

I took my brother inlaw to look at it the only thing good about it is the body work for its age .

    1. milage is very low for a car its age

2.Drivers seat is all patched together with tape also its very loose you can rock back & forth in it.

3.Car has a towbar which owner said he pulls a horsebox with that should tell you who you are dealing with.

4.Boot latch is broken boot cant be opened will have to be fixed for Nct.

Mileage is slightly above average for the year, not well below. That 2.0 L D4D engine would be well capable of pulling a horsebox. The seat and boot lock issues would put me off. You could get a second hand lock but, still, expensive repairs. The car is overpriced by about four hundred euro regardless.

Was the seller a member of an ethnic Irish minority group?😃😃

Nothing is going to stop people advertising cars on DD or elsewhere which other people think are not worth the price asked.

Just ring up if you are interested in a car and chat the seller.

Have a list of questions and try to get as much information as possible before travelling.

If it sounds good move fast, get on the road early and be prepared to walk away if it's not up to scratch.

Remember, it's all about the car, never mind who is selling, you are not looking for a new friend you just want to buy a car.

You would not wanted to have traveled from dublin in the hope it was good i was only out the road from him he kept on ringing my brother inlaw to make a offer even passed on my B/inlaw phone number to another shady person that deals on DD who rang my B/inlaw to pursued him to buy it . The car had a hard life full stop you know anything they sell is well worn.

I think people need to be a bit more realistic in their expectations when shopping for cars of this age and price range. They are never going to be mint, the majority are never going to be as described by their sellers. Sellers are not going to point out these faults or issues to you over the phone for fear you won't come view it.

As for travelling from one side of the country to the other for a bangernomics car, again realisticaly 90% it's not going to be worth the trouble from the offset unless you know someone local who can give it a quick once over. Just use common sense, stay as local as you can so your not wasting too much time looking at something that you can assume is not going to be perfect. Remember your looking at cars that are not far off bottom of the market or end of life, so you need to adjust your expections accordingly.
