Swallows

My shed out the back has been for years, full of swallows in the summer, who have made their nests in the rafters. They shite all over my bins inside and flitter over my head whenever I go in.

I love it, they make me feel alive. I've the door wedged open all summer in case they get stuck. I hadn't realised that they raise two broods in the one year. Just watching them today, they were working relentlessly all day long in the heat. They must be the ultimate weapon against midges and flies.

It'll be a sad day if that shed is ever empty.
