    Hi,

Got a warning on my dashboard saying to fill the adblue tank (15L) (1yo car)

Considering AdBlue is advertising a shelf life of 6 months and I do around 15K a year, should I just topup with 5l at a time or fill the tank?

    What's best?

    Thanks

Fill the tank and be done with it. It's appalling stuff to keep and gets messy.

    Hi folks,

Has anyone come across decent value AdBlue recently? In my local garage it was 48 Euro for 20 litres.

Beware filling the adblue tank. At least on VW cars the dash shows a specific amount and car should not be filled above this amount.

The reason is there is a fill sensor that gets confused when the tank is overfilled. In this case you may end up having to go to a dealer to reset the adblue warning. The sensor is an ultrasonic sensor and it's at the top of the adblue bottle and it does not work properly when there is no air at the top of the bottle the sensor does not report full.

It's a common issue when people overfill the bottle. What I did in the past was note the amount needed on cars display, then put in the exact right amount. After about 4 months I threw in the amount left over.

The price of adblue had shot up, it used to be 16 euro for 20 litres but I believe a lot of it was made in Ukraine. Some garages had adblue pumps but stopped using them and switched to barrells as they were cheaper than a lorry load.

I never heard it had a short shelf life. Typically I would only refill every 2 years. A quick Google shows 12 months if kept below 30 degrees.
