    the options are..

    a) patient goes to the other hospital…

    b) patient goes home

the patient is entitled to refuse the move to another hospital but they cannot refuse being discharged from the hospital they are in…the consultants will not even entertain that conversation..bed is urgently needed to give others a crack at getting well.

i don’t know the condition of the patient but if they need some degree of assistance at home a care plan might be required. As in home-care.

what families/patients cannot do and trust me, it WONT be entertained… is if a family go to the consultant and say “ nope he isn’t leaving yet “.. refusal isn’t an option.

consent isn’t required, the patient and family will be furnished with a date.

Family members are usually involved purely out of courtesy. They don't typically have any rights at all regarding a patient unless it is a child or a vulnerable adult with some form of legal arrangement in place. So family consent isn't required.

Even patient consent is not required for transfer/discharge - that is a clinical matter for the healthcare professionals involved.

If the patient or the family have a concern they must raise it directly with the team and state their case.

Why would a patient have a right to demand a particular hospital? Surely the most appropriate hospital is down to the doctor's assessing his needs?
