Tyre fitting problems.

Hiya I have a problem with tyre fitting.

I have a 2022 Forme Peak Trail 1 hybrid bike since Jan. I have put roughly 400 miles on it and need to change my back tyre as its bald.

My tyres are 700x38c. I purchased a pair of Schwalbe Land Cruiser tyres 700x40c but they are so big when I go to fit them. They keep blowing off. It took a bit of fiddling to eventually get them mounted only for them to blow off while I was cycling.

I have also tried a Bell tyre 700x38c and again kept blowing off as I was attempting to fit.

Has anyone had any issues like this before?

    Thanks for looking.

What pressure are you inflating the tube to, or are you running them tubeless

Firstly, your tyre should not be bald after 400 miles, something is amiss there.

Do all tyres have the 700c size embossed on the side?

I've looked up the specifications for your bike, I am unable to provide a link, but it states that the tyres on your bike are 700 X 32. If this is the case, it may be that going to 700 X 40 is a bit much. They may be too wide for the rims.

Where did you find those specs? MFR's site says max 700 x 40. Only mention of 32 is the 32 hole rims.

Schwalbe says min 50psi so that's what they got. Bell one kept blowing off the rim as it was being pumped up maybe 40 psi at the time.

Yes all my tyres are marked 700

No my bike deffo has 38c width tyres and can accommodate up to 42c tyres. This is from the website where I got it from.

Yes all tyres have the 700 on the side.

Pump them to maybe half that pressure, & go around the tyre making sure it's properly seated in the rim. Then inflate them the rest of the way.

Yes had done that. Eventually got the Schwalbes seated and inflated to required psi. Back one lasted 10 miles then came off the rim and nipped the tube, front lasted a further 2 miles before doing the same.

You still haven't told us how a tyre could be bald after 400 miles (or 640kms in real money). That would be one week's riding for some cyclists. Something's just not adding up there.

that tyre looks too big for that rim. can you take a photo of the embossed dimensions on the sidewall, and of the old tyre?

It is bigger than the rim and has to be held into place to get it to seat. Thats the issue i have... although both tyres have the same same dia size marked on them, any of the new ones I have tried will not stay on.

Tyre looks big in that pic, as the wheel is sitting down inside it.

At this point, I'd say your best bet is to bring it to someone with the relevant knowhow.
