A new rim brake wheelset?

I have a Cannondale CAAD12 that is currently stuck on my turbo and it doesn't have a wheelset. It is probably too nice for that use so I'm looking for a wheelset to give me the possibility to take it out on the road if I wanted.

I haven't bought a rim brake wheelset in a long time and there doesn't seem to be a huge selection.

My requirements are tubeless (but not Mavic UST), not to weigh a tonne and not to cost a bomb given it is a spare bike. Probably 500€ at an absolute max.

I would go for Campagnolo Zonda's if they were tubeless compatible but they are not. At the moment I see the DT Swiss P1800 (1616g) for €255 as the best option. I've also looked at Scribe 365 (1574g / 370€), Scribe Race (1454g / 470€), or Hunt Race Aero (1496g / 509€).

I have the disc version of the DT Swiss so I think they are fine, and I'm not seeing any reason to spend the extra for the others beyond looking a bit cooler.

Any ideas or anything else I should look at?

I have a pair of Hunt Race Aeros a good few years now and find them great. I have heard rumours that the quality has gone slightly downhill though.

I replaced zondas with a set of Hunt Race Aeros a couple years ago and they ride pretty much the same, think you'd find a better price for them, I think mine cost closer to 400

I think they have just increased their prices (as have Scribe) but I don't think there are any alternatives to buying direct from Hunt, and they don't seem to have sales or discount codes. They look nice and are exactly what I had in mind until I saw the DT Swiss for half the price (and only 120g heavier)

I have the Hunt aero race as well, bomb proof alloy wheels, haven't had to do a tap to them since I got them what I have just realised is February 2018. They have survived one bike getting wrote off and numerous crashes and still roll fast in club races. I hope the quality is OK as I plan to buy a disc set for my CX bike of them soon enough. Mine were 360 at the time plus shipping, probably over 500 now with inflation and brexit.

I have the DT Swiss since earlier this year. Bought them on here. Nice classic looking wheels. Struggle to see the extra benefit for the extra costs on the others.

I had Lukasz in Apex Cycles in Kildare make me a set of rim brake wheels last year. DT Swiss 350 hub with DT Swiss spokes and rim was €450 last year.

Stuck a pair of GP5000 on them and they roll really well.

Wheeltec.nl do a reasonable range of rim-brake wheels too. I've a pair based on Duke RR 22s, and like them a lot.

Depends on the value of weight. A neighbour of mine has the DT Swiss equivalent of my wheels. So far (n=1), our experience has been equivalent. Only difference is weight. Is 300g worth 300euro? That's a personal question.k

As mentioned before on another thread, with virtually all new bikes now coming with disk brakes, there must be an awful lot of good wheels hanging in bike sheds. Maybe try a wanted ad on Adverts.

DT Swiss P1800 Spline 23s a very nice wheelset - where are you seeing a pair for €255?

I couldn't find them anywhere for less than €380 earlier this year!

Mantel - coming in at 259 now and showing out of stock, but they were in stock when I made the thread earlier in the week and due back in next week

Have these and would recommend. You can pick them up in sales for half price too. Not sure what if you would stung for import tax as I bought mine pre Brexit.

Not living in Ireland at the moment but hadn't considered a wheel builder, I will take a look locally and also see with Wheeltec mentioned below

I picked up a set of their Arc wheels (lighter version of these) and really happy with them. Got them 50% of pre-Brexit. GBP150 for them was a total steal. 28mm tyres on them (19mm internal), light and comfy

Any experience on the reliability of these? They look perfectly suited to the job & possibly worth the extra 140 over the DT Swiss
