Neighbour's trees damaging wall.

A friend of mine has a problem where their neighbour's trees have cause large sections of my friend's boundary wall to collapse. They are 50 ft Leylandi that were planted, as small trees, too close to the wall. Even if the trees were cut down their roots would prevent the rebuilding of the wall. The neighbour is totally unhelpful. Some of the tree branches are encroaching up to 20 feet on to my friend's garden.

What legal recourse would they have ? A remedy would be a big job as all the roots would need to be dug out to allow the rebuilding of the wall & restore the boundary to it's correct position.
