    Hi everyone

I have rang a few solicitors but to no avail. I’m looking for a solicitor who handles personal debt cases. Ie an individual owes me money and I need a solicitor to pursue legally for me.

does anyone know of a solicitor who does this work in dublin or indeed anywhere in ireland please.

    thank you

    How much is the debt?

A fair question....... if it's small enough there is small-claim court, OP doesn't want the 'legally' side being bigger than alledged debt being pursued

Thank you for replies. Way too big for the small claims court, its 36K

I have a very solid record of it being loaned

    Thanks

Most solicitors will handle simple debt collection for goods or services rendered, however if it’s a loan and more over to a family member or someone in a close relationship it’s a messy business and anything but a clear case. You may need to go through the telephone book to find one.

Small claims couldn't be used for personal debt any way.

But too large for district court too.

You could try bringing a case through the circuit court representing yourself.

If you go down to the circuit court on the next sitting, try approaching some of the solicitors there, they may be interested. If that fails just learn some basic court procedures and represent yourself the best you can.

Recoverability is likely to be an issue though?

First off, what part of the country are you in?

Does the individual actually have enough assets to satisfy the debt? if they don't I cant see a solicitor touching it.

In the Circuit Court a Civil Bill will have to be drafted, issued and served. That is not easy without legal training.

A solicitor will want money up front from the o/p. It will be the o/ps problem if there are no assets to satisfy a judgement.

Any solicitor worth his salt will look at the totality of the circumstances and advise his client on the prospects of collection, together with the costs involved and risks arising.

Sometimes commencing proceedings is enough to bring about co-operation, before any great costs are incurred.

Any solicitor worth his salt will want to be paid before engaging in any such analysis. Goint through AML and having a consultation with the o/p would easily amount to 2 hours work.

At the moment I am hoping that a solicitors letter might get payment moving or at least put a bit of pressure on. It wont need 2 hours of explaining possible an hour but I have no problem paying for a consultation to get an opinion of what my options are.

That what my op was asking, does anyone know a solicitor who would give me an opinion and at the end of the day thats what I'll have to make a decision on.

    Thanks all
