Want to upgrade memory to 1 TB.

I've read it's straight forward but new machine and I want to ensure it gets done right.

Procedure? (or just bring it to a laptop store?)

When I run GTA 4, it says I'm using 450 out of 512 or thereabouts GB?

So to ease the burden on the machine (as I'm going to be running GTA 5 shortly), I figure best to upgrade.

Perhaps you mean storage (M.2 SSD) and yeah, you about on "critical" usage

For upgrade you will need M.2 external enclosure and software for "cloning", some SSD's come with cloning software(samsung).

If you chose to do fresh install no extra's needed apart of 8GB USB stick. Get Win install media prepared beforehand:

Yes storage.

I'm definitely going to have to get someone to do this for me.

The thought of opening up and potentially destroying my new machine positively unnerves me.

I was thinking I'd just buy the storage off amazon, then get the local technician to install it, but what storage is exactly fitting to this HP Omen?

Do Omen recommend a HP specific brand to use?

With the additional storage, the game itself will be able to make use of that to run faster, right?

As in, it's not for "storage" exclusively?

Yup, that's what it is. I wouldn't be too picky about brands, I'd say any will do. Just check reading and writing speeds and compare prices. As other poster suggested, if you don't plan clean install, you will need external enclosure, unless you have acces to other PC and do the cloning. Done it for friends few weeks ago, used clonzilla (any other software I tried was giving me troubles, even the one recommended with the new drive), it was done quickly and saves the hassle of setting up everything from the scratch.

It takes 2280 size NVMe

As it appear your laptop has two M.2 ports, second (PCIe gen3) is empty and you could install additional drive there for storage - no need to touch OS drive

I was unable to find info if using second M.2 drive will effect you graphics performance

Didn't check your laptop properly. If there are two slots for drives, of course you don't have to do that.

Other thing, would adjusting graphics settings in GTA 4 effect storage?

As in this machine as 16 GB VRAM with the GPU, and 512 GB storage, but in the in-game graphics settings it's saying "400 out of 512 GB in use" and that varies according to how I tweak the graphics settings up or down;

Texture, distance, water-reflection, etc.

Would storage really be implicated for tweaking in game graphic settings?
