    Hi

I'm hoping to bring my son to Manchester in a few months time. I'm hoping to do the old Trafford tour , Lego etc.

Could you recommend any hotels that are central but not too crazy at the wkends. I want somewhere that is handy to get to but not too far away from shopping and public transport.

    Thanks so much

Manchester city centre like most cities is expensive on the weekend, even more so if Man United are playing at old trafford, the prices go up more due to the match goers looking for somewhere to stay.

There are suburbs of Manchester like Salford quays/ Altrincham etc, all well served by the tram lines and can get you into city centre fairly quickly, accommodation will be cheaper out here. And you can get a tram ticket on a friday evening which can cover you on all tramps up to sunday evening for a very cheap price, worth checking out.

I am a very frequent visitor to Manchester, for me the premier inn hotels are ideal, plenty available in Manchester, i try use the Lower Mosley street one, 10 minutes or so walk to Piccadilly gardens , and a tram stop 2 minute walk away at St Peters square.

Everything on your door step in this area or portland street and away from the relative hustle and bustle of nightlife.

Whatever you do do NOT stay here:

All the negative reviews are true!

Thanks. I seen the reviews of Britannia hotel and decided against it. I think I'm going for the premier inn on Portland street or lower Mosley.

I stayed in the ABode on the weekend of both Parklife and a United home game. Hotel was very calm and normal and very central. Wasn't particularly cheap, but if you add in the cost of a taxi (if you can get one - none to be had that weekend) to somewhere further out, it was a wash.

You wont go wrong with either. I stayed in Central on Sunday night. I have stayed in Portland Street on for about twenty years and in May and last Octiber. Staff are particularly excellent.

I'd recommend the 4-star Crowne Plaza in Shudehill. It's super clean, quiet, and close to the city quarters. You're also next to the Arndale centre and just a short 2 min walk for the tram from Shudehill Interchange to OT. Worth a look

I stayed in the ibis on Portland Street. Portland Street is very central and close to shopping and the tram. Premier Inns are great as well.

Whenever I go over for a game, I usually stay at the Pendulum Hotel on Sackville Street. 5-10 minute walk into Piccadilly Gardens, where you can get the Metrolink (tram) to a lot of places, including Old Trafford (if you must! 😉). Piccadilly train station is a similar walk from the hotel. The hotel itself is basic, but clean. Decent fried breakfast (buffet) for £9. Never had an evening meal in it, so I can't comment on that.

Just to point out that kids eat free in the Premier Inn for Breakfast (at least they used to). I've stayed a few times (for City matches) in the one on Dale Street (Piccadilly), might get a little noisy at weekends though.
