I have 13 octavia 1.6 d new type ,170km with full main dealer service ,nct 2 years ,tb done .I am thinking of upgrading to 20 octavia 1.6d same spec 40-50 km .They seem to be around 25k in main dealer.Does any one have the ball park figure for coming up 7 years ,I see cars similar to my own in and they garages looking for 10k+ .

Should I be able to trade in for a 20 octavia for 15k euro

What garages ask for similar cars is totally different to what they will offer you as a trade in. They have to factor in spending money on preparing it for resale such as servicing, potentially replacing tyres, timing belt, etc. They then have to add the cost of a warranty on it as well as make a profit on the sale. With your car being 9 years old, they may not retail it and just sell it onto the trade (smaller motor dealers) so take the highest offer they get from them.

You would be doing very well to trade up 7 years for only 15k these days. Even if you paid 21k to come up 7 years that's only 3k per year which I would think would be even with the price of cars these days. Remember that Brexit has largely put a stop to cheaper imports, that and the scarcity of new cars has pushed up prices of used cars as well as demand for them.

I’d guess it would cost at least €20k to change. The trade value on your car would only be €6,000 or so. And main dealer prices seem to be upwards of €26k
