Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Proposed sewage treatment plant Islandmagrath Clarecastle

Just to let people know there's a planning application with Clare Co Co for a sewage treatment plant on slobland in the townland of Islandmagrath.

The proposal is to fell the existing forest of broadleaves and conifers, of which there are over 10 species, to plant willow and spread the sewage on the ground. The River Fergus is 1/4 of a mile away and that whole area of land is tidal with the drains filling every 6 hours or so and the land occasionally flooding. So the groundwater will be contaminated in dry periods, and sludge will flow into the drains over the land and out to the Fergus and ultimately to the Shannon Estuary.

I also think the need to "hide" the plant in a forest is telling, and a promising young forest, a rare thing in that area will be destroyed. It is estimated that €75-80k of taxpayers money was spent in creating the forest, and paying the farmer each year.

    Here's the planning file https://www.eplanning.ie/ClareCC/AppFileRefDetails/22583/0

If you feel strongly about it either way, submissions must be in by middle of the coming week
