Right of way at junction

There is a junction/crossroad that i travel through which has 4 stop signs on it, one at each road approaching it. Who has the right of way? I would have thought you would yield to the right but someone else said it would be common sense but i am thinking its hard to argue common sense with some people! i have checked the rules of the road and it just refers to stop signs as far as i can see.

Treat it kinda similar to a roundabout, give way to traffic on your right and prioritise whoever gets there first

common sense and usually if you see a car has reached their stop line before you, you would let them proceed.

The problem is that too many drivers don't use common sense.

4-way Stop Signs are very unusual in Ireland for this very reason. Whereabouts is it, as a matter of interest?

4 way stop signs are quite common in the USA. From what I've seen they work reasonably well but problems tend to arise when the traffic volume is high or when an aggressive driver just wants to get through the junction.

Over there it works with whoever gets to the junction first goes first. Here, I would expect nobody knows what to do so proceed with caution!

Definitely on narrow bridges this is the general rule but many have yield signs on both sides.

I have to disagree on this rule for 4 way stops. All vehicles must fully stop before proceeding. It's slower to start up a hill but I don't think that should impact priority, like said roundabout like rules apply but stop first.

Not really, but that seems to be the general consensus at our 4-wayer.

If anyone is going to blast through without stopping, it'll be the f-er coming down the hill.
