NCT no text messages

how are you? i am getting my car nct and i got no text message to verify i got a test arrange, the car will be out of date by the time i do the test and i dont want any penalty points or hassle from the garda

having an appointment booked doesn’t mean you can drive without test though.

it might help you sway an on-the-fence Garda maybe, but just print out the email?

Some networks like Virgin Media have issues with receiving some system messages.

How long before the renewal date do NCTS send out the notifications to book, or do they even send out notifications?

Mine is due in 1 month and I haven't heard anything. I was keeping an eye on the website daily and up until last week I was getting the 'Early Test Warning' when I tried to book.

That warning is now gone but the closest date I can get is in December, 5 months time!

Have you taken the 4 month extension into account in thinking you're out of date? Mine is out since 30th April and I've a test booked for 2nd August and as far as I know I'm all legal until end of August with my current cert

If you didn’t get a text or email then chances are you didn’t actually book an appointment.

I don't want to hijack the thread but this post is puzzling me.

My understanding of the four month extension was that it was a once off initiative to help with backlogs caused by lockdown and other issues. And that once you were assigned a new due date, in my case October, (used to be June) that's when the test is due, from there on?

My disc shows October and the NCT website shows October as the due date.

It was implemented really, really weirdly and I got given nearly three years between tests, on a 21 month cert. I would have thought they'd all expired by now.

My disc showed 30 April 2022 but nct site said 31 August 2022 Anyway, it passed on 2 August and is now valid until 31 Aug 2024

In case of issues phone helpline rather than try to use website. Even on phone priority list it can take a week or two to get a test date.

My mother rang the priority line back in July (she was due an August test, and the earliest she was offered online was Feb !) - Either way, it's nearly September now, and having called and checked a few times, she's still "on the priority queue, it could be a few weeks yet!"

They're also not honouring the "free test if we can't offer you one in 28 days" from their customer charter - blaming Covid [I have this in writing from them, twice now !]

I'd be delighted with 2 weeks. I'm finally down for a booking in September having initially called in in April. They eventually gave me an appointment in July on a date I was out the country, and then didn't put me back on the list when I rescheduled that, so I was back at the bottom of the list when I called them again to find out what was happening with my booking. I called on 27 July and have a booking for 15 September.

I kept on Logging in online at around midnight and I was able to get loads of dates within the week. During the day tough the times were show up were Jan/Feb 2023.

New cancellations are loaded on the system late at night and you can usually get your pick of appointments then. It has been mentioned countless times here.

Never wait for a "reminder" from NCTS. The clearest reminder you have is the one displayed on your windscreen and you can book months in advance. My own car isn't due until January 2023 and I already booked it in for early December a while ago.
