Hi - Just wondering how much I should expect a garage to charge to fit & replace two back-wheel shock absorbers?

I just had this done yesterday on a ~10 year old Octavia in an independent garage.

Was charged 2hrs labour (@€60/hr) and €35 for each shock and ~€30 for new pair of bump stops.

At the same time I also had a wheel bearing replaced and was charged 2hrs labour +€95 for the new bearings.

    Total inc vat was €485

Not sure if this was a fair price or not - but it was considerably less than I was quoted at the main dealer.

What type of car etc is it?

    It's a BMW 3-Series, about 10 years old.

    I have a 2009 3 series and I did it in about 1.5 hours. I'm a diyer, not a mechanic.

Do you have the shock absorbers yourself and are looking for labour only?

No, it'll be the garage sourcing and fitting the two back shock absorbers. They've quoted €75 per shock absorber and estimate 1.5-2hrs labour.

Just wondering what typical total price may be and whether that aligns to expected rate.

If they gave you a price for the shocks why didn't you ask what the labour would cost? I think BMW charge around €80 per hour for labour.

    150 for Shocks (2x75)

    120 for Labour (2x60)

270 total. Probably not the worst.
