Flight time has been changed - can't make it

Young inexperienced family member has just been informed that flight home from Barcelona to Dublin will depart 12 hours earlier than scheduled. He has a two hour train journey plus journey time to and from train station to factor in. It would mean leaving 24 hours earlier and staying in a city hotel overnight alone.

Does anyone know whether he can get ticket refunded and change airlines or the like (I know the same could happen again) or would his hotel stay be paid for? I have just received the message so don't know too many details really.

This happened to me booking a U.S. flight. The airlines should have a policy where you can’t reasonably make your flight you can change it. Not sure about refund tho. Depends on the airline.

Thanks Vicxas - I have just seen the email they sent - change/refund etc possible - pain in the ass! No guarantee of course that anything will fly as agreed these days!

Depends how far into the future your flight is.

If it's more than 14 days, you're not entitled to anything more than a refund.

If it's less than 14 days, see here:

    No airport hotel nearby?

Thanks - flight is this Monday. There probably is an airport hotel nearby but passenger is only a youngster travelling alone. Anyway I have managed to book a Ryanair flight for him which he should be able to make (and hopefully it will fly as arranged). Now has to cancel and rebook trains.
