Hi all any help with this I'd really appreciate it.

I lost the key for my Renault grand scenic 2018.

I still have a spare, but like the comfort of having 2 keys.

    It's a 4 button fob.

I've priced around, the main dealership is looking for €375 and non dealer are looking for €250, quite expensive.

    I was looking at aliexpress

and they are selling the full fob for €11.78, it's says all i have to do it program the key and get the blank key cut to match the spare key.

Has anyone ever tried this and does it work out any cheaper.

    Thanks

How do you plan to program it? 250 is not a bad price

    Thanks for your reply,

That's the reason for my post.

    can this be done.

Is it possible to get the key fob myself

and pay someone to to program it.

    Thanks

It's potentially possible but programming won't be super cheap, few people would touch a key from Ali express and it would have to be the exact right key with correct transponders and frequencies

Frankly, I'd pony-up the 250 here rather than wing-it with AliExpress. I've heard of these being much, much more. But it's your call.

Ali at that price is obviously a gamble but probably one worth taking for the sake of €12,look at the reviews, there will be several places prepared to program it other than a dealer and I wouldn't worry too much about getting the blade cut but that wouldn't be an issue either if you prefer to.

I would recommend ringing a dozen Irish locksmiths for quotes. The aliexpress would need a specialist to program anyway.

What I did before was just a key and not program it, just as a backup in case key physically broke. Then it could be towed to dealer if stuck.

You can also add an airtag to your existing keyring for 20 euro which will help you find keys if lost. Handy either way.

Get in touch with this guy.

He does dozens of different keys.

Quoted me about €130 for a BMW key including key, programming and blade cutting.
