Do we need to be concerned about hot sun on heating oil tank?

This weekend the oil tank was absolutely roasting to the touch.

Is there any concern about the tank warping from the heat? Or even the heating oil inside it to reach a flash point?

I've never heard of it happening so probably not huh?

There will most likely be small areas around the tank at flash point, as there will be at your petrol tank when you open the lid. I suppose that you meant auto ignition point, which will not happen in the situation that you describe.

As for the tank, I expect that they are designed to withstand summer temperatures, but it's always a good idea to give them a bit of shade. Be careful not to put anything in that would prevent inspection on your annual oil boiler service.
