Cancelled dating app but now they are after me threatening legal proceeding

I was foolish, I got sucked in and signed up for a dating app in Dec 2020. Within a day I realised the error and followed the cancelation procedure as best I could and within the month timeframe - even duplicating by sending a real letter registered to the company, based on mainland Europe.

They did not respond until after the deadline, wanting payment for continued membership, but I had cancelled the DD with my bank. After several back and forth emails - I told them to cease and desist. heard nothing since.

I got a WhatsApp today 18 months later saying they will initiate legal proceedings unless I pay 249 euro (late fees plus this collection company's "fees").

    What do I do now?

I'd wait for them to contact you in an actually professional manner. Sounds like a desperate fishing exercise if they're doing it by Whatsapp.

Is that those jokers who run the three websites be2.ie/academicsingles.ie/singles50.ie, who are based in Luxembourg?

Their reviews are atrocious. They charge €30 for the first month and in the small print they say if you don't cancel in writing before the expiry of each month you will have to pay the monthly "real" fee of €50? So, type a letter, sign it, scan it, attach it to an email and send it back to them within 14 days of the monthly expiry and they won't charge you.
