Kitchen floor tiling

    Hi,

About a year ago (probably more), I put down kitchen tiles. The tiles themselves are 12x24 porcelain tiles. I put them down in a staggered fashion and they look well. However, I made a massive blunder that I only read about after the last tile was laid. This was that with porcelain tiles, you should use powdered adhesive. See where I'm going with this? Lol.

I used tubs of ready mixed. Woops. The situation a year on (now) is that 90% of the tiles are solid and when knocked on with my knuckle, I can hear the solid sound (like I do with the other ceramic tiles in my home that were laid with powdered adhesive. However, about 8 of the tiles sound hollow in places.

Coincidentally, the grout running adjacent to the hole sounding tiles, is breaking away in small bits.

The hole sounding tiles are really within the heavy use area of walking (right beside the kitchen counter). The other areas are not going to see much traffic and because my kitchen is quite small, I don't anticipate they will either anytime soon.

So, I have been humming and hawing about what to do and am looking for some advice if ya don't mind, thanks.

    My options are:

    1. Bite the bullet, rip all the tiles up and start again.

    2. Remove only the tiles which are sounding hollow/ have grout broken away adjacent to them. (Of which there are about 8)

What would you do? Do you reckon, if I left the tiles down and went for option 2 that they would last a long time, the fact most of them sound solid anyway?

I, definitely, would be really grateful for any advice on this as I'm a little lost on what to decide to do.

    Thanks.
