Removing Grease Nipple

    Said I would try here first. I can't remove this grease nipple. There is no way of grabbing it with a wrench. It is on a lawnmower. Photo attached.

    I can't see why the teeth of a decent vice-grips wouldn't grab it and give good leverage too. Failing that, I'd drill a hole through it (up to 4mm) at point indicated, put in a hard steel pin and give it a belt.

    Another idea - cut 2 opposite flats off the flanged bit and use an open end spanner

    That's all assuming it is threaded. Strange they didn't use a hex one.

    Another option is to cut a slot in the top with a hacksaw and insert a flat screwdriver bit.

    Heat the threaded section with a gas torch, a vice grips should get enough grip to move it then.

    Thanks for the suggestions. I can spin the nipple independently of the shaft it is in but it still won't come out.

    It wasn't taking grease. I put a 2mm drill bit in it. Now it is taking grease. The ball bearing is gone from the top of it. It should probably be replaced at some time.
