Hi all, I'm working on resubmitting my thesis at the moment- had a lot of barriers and problems along the way, also doing this remotely. I'm largely lost as to the changes requested and my supervisor who is relatively new to my work seems to not get it. It's not her area of specialisation in all fairness and she was landed with this supervision late on. I want/need to find someone to help me with this and see if it can be salvaged. Is there such a thing as sourcing an advisor/consultant outside of the college? Where might one find one? I have 3 weeks annual leave in August and need to make hay 🤯

Hi. Sorry to read this - what a terrible position to find yourself in. Unfortunately, this is quite common - to have to implement changes requested is one of the most stressful aspects of any thesis submission and correction process - I had many sleepless nights at the end of my PhD journey trying to please the examiners' - one correction proved impossibly difficult and I was also lost and confused.

Being landed with a new supervisor is also rotten luck - in theory, there's nobody stopping you from asking old teachers/professors to help you get this over the line - I know one person who ended up contacting her undergrad lecturer/supervisor, who helped her get the thesis completed to the required standard, as she had the knowledge and was familiar with what was being asked. But the thesis examination process is usually between you and your examiners (my supervisor didn't get involved for mine) - so you'll probably need to figure it out on your own. Don't panic, take a few days out to recalibrate your brain, and figure out the best strategy forward: do you need more time than what's being offered; can you consult with people about your changes/corrections; can you query the changes requested with the people who've asked you to make them? Demand answers - you're entitled to know where you stand, and feeling lost at this late stage in the game is absolutely not on you - let other people take a bit of responsibility for your stress. Best of luck!
