Rolling stage, looks like there may be light crosswinds for the run to Calais. Probably one for the sprinters, unless some team decide to go balls out in the wind.

Sneaky e/w on Gilbert @400/1, he won a stage at 4 days of Dunkerque a few months back on a stage like this, and its his 40th birthday today.

Kristoff also is 35 today, so will probably give it a go.

It's gotta be Wout's stage I think. I can see Jumbo Visma controlling the peloton over that last climb and being in prime position for the last ten kilometres.

The last climb is interesting, I don't know if it's long enough for classic riders like Van der Poel to make a break.

I see Sagan as the biggest danger to van Aert today.

Fill Up Jill Bare will definytely by up there today. 400/1 is a huge price to win.

What is the point of Wiggins on the moto? Hasn't added anything so far.

Loving WvA's full big bird look😄

If he was anywhere else we'd have to listen to more of him???

Every now and then he'll be on the bike and actual give some insight, or be able to cover \ explain something that happened away from the main cameras. But yeah nine times out of ten it's STBO territory.

He nearly took someone out in the peloton there trying to pass them, an absolute gowl.

I enjoy Wiggins because he's on the bike with no arms holding on. Just waiting for him to fall off some day while on camera.

Jumbo Visma sitting in behind doing nothing. I can see them taking the lead before that final climb and putting on an infernal pace to put the other sprinters in a bit of trouble and set it up for Wout. If they do that I can only see Sagan and possibly Ewan staying near the front.

Of course there is 10km after it but if your legs are hurting it'll be very difficult.

I’d imagine there might be some choice words on the Jumbo bus after this stage, Roglic got dropped pretty hard on the initial break

That shot was class, the 2 JV lads look at each other and stop peddling when Catanio pulls over after his turn on the front of the chase 😅

The JV rider behind Phillipsen passed JP after the finish line and pointed up the road as if to say " Ya dozy twat"

Good interview with Adam Yates there where he said that they were expecting Jumbo-Visma to attack like in Paris-Nice.

And then also Yates was very honest in saying that he is not looking forward to tomorrow's stage 😁

Best "yellow jersey vs the bunch" win on a flat stage since Cancellara in 2007 ( and McEwen should have remembered that as he was one of the sprinters who couldn't catch Spartacus)

Was thinking he seemed unusually happy with 2nd...

Stunning win by WVA, to win a stage in yellow must be one of the best feelings.

Wout destroyed the strava segment for that last climb, previous KOM was 1.54, he did it in 1.37, averagin 800 or so watts and is now 8 seconds faster than No 2 on the list Pogacar

Spotted that moment too. Actually laughed out loud when it happened.

I think I have to quote myself after that. 😎

Absolutely cannot wait to see how the GC lads get on with some pavé, it’s a different ballgame compared to a classic, I’d say there’ll be one or two big names who could lose a fair amount of time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,660 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Apparently JV are sending WVA & Laporte to shepherd Rog, with Benoot & Van Hoydonck to take care of Jonas, as 2 separate groups over the cobbles. Of the 2 lads that are supposed to look after Pog, Bjerg is apparently sick and Laengen is nowhere near as strong as the Jumbo lads. Ineos looking strong as well. Could see both teams try and rip it up straight away to put UAE under pressure, and end up forcing an elite group of GC and roleurs away e.g. MVDP, a few QS guys, Kristoff etc. Pog losing time would probably not be the worst thing to happen for the race, as i'd expect him & UAE to put the hammer down in the mountains anyway.

Best time to start watching todays stage?

Currently in work so need to get my timing correct.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,660 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Starts at 1pm Irish time, first pave is 80km in, second is at 100km. I'd say 3pm onwards will be fine i think
