Can you check NCT fail history

I am thinking of buying a car privately, only thing is the NCT is out by 2 months. They said that they didn't bother testing it as they already bought another car and just kept pushing the date out to keep it valid (semi valid if you ask me) so they could let people take it for a test drive and don't want the hassle of having to do the NCT. I have taken the car for a spin and brought someone along to check it out who isn't a mechanic but does a bit of DIY on his own car, who couldn't find anything wrong but might get a mechanic to look it over if I do decide to purchase.

However, I am wondering if he brought it for a NCT check, seen something he didn't like and is just saying it wasn't tested. I know buying privately is a bit of a chance but it seems quite a good deal so willing to take the chance and don't mind if there is a few bits to be fixed but if I knew if he didn't put it through the NCT that would put my mind at ease that he is at least being honest about that. Is there a way to check failed NCTs or is it only possible to check the passed NCT information. I am fine paying for a service if it gets me the data, doesn't have to be free.

No its not possible to check. The only way to know would be to enter the reg on the NCT website. If it prompts you to book a re test then you know its been tested in the past 28 days, but after this time it just resets back to booking a full test.

My advice would be to get it up on a ramp or at least get a mechanic to check it out. I’ve bought a couple of cars with no NCT and they turned out to be disasters. Missing DPF’s, emissions failures, etc. Although sometimes all a car might need is headlight alignment.
