Bus Eireann cancellations

Anyone know what's going on at BE lately? There's been over 100+ cancellation of services at short notice in the space of the last week due to unspecified "operational issues." Is it mostly due to covid and they just don't want to say?

Shortage of drivers compounded by annual summer leave kicking in and also drivers out with Covid again I suspect.

In smaller depots there will be less cover.

It’s not good though, at all.

There's something weird happening in Galway too.

The 401 on Sunday morning seems to be on a 30 minute frequency according to the Real-time signs and the buses that show up, but the online timetables (a-b.ie and buseireann.ie) both still say 20 minute. Last week, it was 30 minute in the am, and 40 minute later in the afternoon. I didn't check the afternoon today, but the morning was still 30 min.

Is making me wonder what other buses have had on-the-quiet adjustments.

Stop delaying on a new pay deal

Drivers are leaving to go back to the jobs they had before bus driving, way better pay.

The attitude round here is Bus driving is not worth a decent wage, well now you are seeing and being affected by the consequences of this, if you want a good bus service you have to pay good wages, its that simple, the longer the NTA deflect and avoid the issue the worse the problem will get.

Dont give me an excuse there is no money, the government is finding money left right and center , look at the billions spent on Ukrainian refugees who have never paid a penny tax in Ireland, while the Irish workers can't get too and from work reliably on a bus to earn a days pay that pays the taxes that are spent on these Ukrainians, how many times have you been forced to pay for a taxi?

I agree. To me the only immediate option is to change the timetable to one that the bus companies CAN deliver.

No point in advertising services that they know that they cannot operate.

For that to happen the NTA would have to admit GA are failing big style, and they won’t do that.

if DB are struggling, GA must be in dire danger of a complete collapse of services

anyway the word is the GA routes have been given to a Aussie bus company to run in next tender processes, not all the routes as the bulk will be going back to DB.

To be fair I live locally so I rarely use either bus or taxi.

It is a tough career I can only assume so the best of luck with the pay claim.

If they had to change BE timetables, how could that not go balubas on GA and their collapsing service?

Changing BA timetables would only shine a light on the GA disaster and the NTA won’t be having that.

Hmm, most of the Waterford - Rosslare buses cancelled today, and the local Waterford bus services running at a reduced frequency too. Another Covid outbreak in the Waterford depot maybe?

And the 5pm bus from Rosslare was cancelled yesterday with literally two minutes notice!

I was surprised to see that a few days after a fair bit of press coverage locally of Bus Eireann cancelling services between Dublin and Donegal, they expended their services on that route.

Seems very strange to be seeing more services added to the network at a time when scores are being cancelled every day.

That would make sense, but on the other hand they didn't seem to be able to hire in capacity previously to fill in the cancelled services and one of the reasons for that was apparently that the hire in companies also had no capacity!
