Basically looks like a robin without the red - am I right in thinking female robins don't have the red breast? Funny how the fledglings look almost bigger than their mum!

Yup - exactly the right behaviour from what I've just read - mum was flitting off to fetch fresh flies for the fledglings while they all sat there in a line. We were worried for a while that they might have fallen out of a nest due to the windy weather, but then all of a sudden they all decided to fly up into the trees!
