Just reading the article here, and I can't help but wonder where the problem is coming from. I've heard many times that the staff on the ground are doing as much as they can with what they have, and are at, or even past breaking point.

Is it not enough money to run the hospital from government sources? Are the funds not being spent efficiently? They can't seem to get staff, but the rates that are set aren't attractive to overseas staff, and our own graduates are far more likely to leave than stay.

If it is a national issue, why is it so bad in Limerick? Just looking for opinions. Not names. :-D

Probably because no other region in the country has one hospital serving the population that is there. St Johns A&E, Nenagh, Ennis etc have all closed after 5pm so the regional serves anyone from the entire county of Limerick, north Tipp, Clare, north cork and probably north kerry. That is too much pressure on one hospital to manage. They cant fill staff quotas also probably due to the chaotic mess there which doesnt help. Years of underinvestment in the area is starting to catch up, the population is growing and the hospital remains the same, we also dont have a private option in limerick which probably doesnt help

There is so much money spent paying the wages of all the senior management and middle management theres very little money left to provide nurses or indians on the ground to deal with patients.

These new Public Sector wage increases especially for all those earning over 80K will only make it worse.

A lot of it coming from lack of resources in the community. V hard to get a GP and can be watching ages for Shannon Doc to get back to you. Thats the case in mid tipp anyways. A family member needed a GP over easter. Local GPs on annual leave, shannon doc told them to get on GP in the morning and the locum in the GP practice said he was not authorised to do house calls (patient has mobility issues). In the end we ended up calling the ambulance service and was taken to hospital. I know assess to doctors is so bad up our way people are now of the frame of thinking call an ambulance they cant refuse you.

Also UHL catchement area has too big a population for 1 hospital.

The sooner the new bons hospital over by northern trust gets built the better. Also we need to Ennis and Nenagh be allowed do more to take pressures off
