Quiet Graphics Card

I recently bought an MSI GeForce GTX 1650 4GT LP OC.

I have a PC monitor and a 77 inch OLED TV attached to it.

I'm finding it quite noisy. I tried reducing the fan speed below 30% in MSI Afterburner but it won't let me.

The noise bothers me when I'm just working on the PC and not looking at video or have the TV on.

Can anyone suggest options for a quieter graphics card?

I'd consider de-shrouding; i.e. removing the stock fans & attaching 1-2 80mm case fans with zip ties.

Is it possible to connect the monitor to two cables? One coming from the GTX 1650 and another from the integrated or a low power, quiet GPU card. If so, then you can disable the noisy GPU when you are not playing games and use the quiet/integrated GPU.

His board is noisy because it's a board with low height and that limits the board to small fans: it has 2x50mm fans. The OP is complaining about the noise, so we can conclude that the fans are revving up to keep up with the heat generation. I guess that 2x50mm fans are just not enough to cool the RTX1650 gpu. That's why I selected boards with 2x80mm fans or larger, in that link.

It should be. But as a general rule of thumb you should expect to at least need to reboot the machine and change the graphic settings in the BIOS. Something along lines of "Select primary graphics adapter: IGP or PCIex0"

You don't need to set anything; the card simply won't turn on the fans until it hits a predetermined temperature (usually 50-60C).

The temperature when just using the PC and no video is usually about 28 degrees.

When I play say 4k video on the TV it goes up to about 36 degrees and then is completely stable. The fan speed never changes from 30%.

The noise level from the GPU is constant.

Should've clarified; on a GPU with a zero-RPM mode, the fans won't turn on until it gets hot, e.g. while gaming.

That's for legacy BIOS and controls the video output in the bios only.

Cheap graphics cards run DC input fans with have a minimum voltage and run all the time. Usually with smaller louder fans. Better cards would have PWM fans and are capable of running 0RPM but you would have to research each card to be sure of this.

This isn't at all true. The GTX1650 isn't a hot card and does not need much cooling. What he just has is a cheap card. There's no end of GTX1650s that run cool and quiet, even some of the low profile models, same was always true of low profile GTX1050's and 750Ti's, which all consume similar power.

It's nothing to do with temps or surface space and everything to do with quality.

I think the problem may be that different people have different ideas about what constitutes nousy.

Minimalist music with long silent passages are ruined by the hum of the fan at 30%.

Really some cards are just loud and are generally lower quality. I had a Zotac GTX1650 Low Profile and I had the exact same issue, the fan was always ridiculously loud, even when the card was idle and temp was super low, as it was set to something like 40%.

I returned it and replaced it with a different model LP GTX1650 and it was fine. Inaudible at idle/low usage at ambient room noise, even under full load it wasn't loud. Can't remember the model, might have been Gigabyte.

Whatever about higher stress scenarios ( particularly when it comes to low profile) any half-decent card will be inaudible at idle or low usage and generally indistinguishable from case fan and CPU cooler noise levels. Some, the fans don't even spin until a certain threshold is hit - which means they almost never turn on apart from gaming, especially when it comes to a low power card like GTX1650.

Overheal

A lot also depends on your setup. You can put the coldest/quietest GPU in a case with no airflow and get the same result, a GPU with noisy fans. Virtually none of the AIBs use silent fan designs. The ultimate determinate is the temperature delta gradient between the hotspot on the card and the cold spot (the heat sink). If your GPU is swimming in hot stale air it’s going to rev it’s heart out looking for any pocket of cool air in your case. Once the heat sink is soaked your hot spot heat has nowhere to go.

For a low/short profile GPU, the physical size constraint over other cards with the same chipset means you’ll never run more powerfully or more quietly, it’s not necessarily about the size of the fans pitching up their frequency relative to a 120mm fan but the lack of extra thermal capacitance from a larger heat sink and smaller surface area for forced air convection, means they have to spin at significantly higher top speeds to get the job done.
