    Hi folks

Renault Megane 07. Window control on driver side has just started not to work all the time. Works sometimes, sometimes not. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Possible causes are the window switch, window regulator or the window motor. I'd start by making sure the fuse/relay for the power window is working.

That being said, if a fuse had popped then the window just wouldn't work at all.

If there's an issue with the motor, sit in the car and while holding the button to operate the window, open and then slam the door shut to see if the power window then works, if it does its likely the motor, you can repeat this a few times to make sure.

  • Thanks for that. I watched a you tube video which recommended holding the window switch engaged for 5 seconds, and the system re-sets itself. I tried that and its working now, but with the electrics on a Megane that age, I'm not convinced its not something else.

NCT due in a few weeks and the car wont pass if driver window isn't working. Hopefully it will stay OK. Cheers!

2 other possible, well known on Renault, there may be a wire in the umbilical cord that comes into the door starting to fail, they can break, internally, but initially still sometimes make contact depending on the door position, then fail for no apparent reason, and the other possible is that if the window is working OK now after a computer reset, it's an outside possibility that the battery is getting weak, and the computer voltage dropped a little too low when starting, which causes it to lose the calibration settings. if it's had to be jump started recently, then that's a clue relating to the battery.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

05 megane myself, theyre some pain in the arse in regards electrics and electronics, im after using some load of electrical contact cleaner over the years, i would recommend spraying all electric contacts with is though, great stuff for clearing moisture and dirt out of connectors
